I began officiating high school football in 2008. The same year I began my semi professional football career with the Portland Shockwave. My playing career lasted 5 years and included multiple trips to the playoffs, one trip to a league championship game and being selected to be a member of the 2010 USA Women’s Football National team. On both teams I played on the line and I loved being in the trenches. Naturally when I was asked if I wanted to be assigned any where other than the wings I immediately replied “Umpire!” I’ve been in the middle for the last 11 years of my career and love every minute of it!

Seven years HS experience and three years Junior College experience in Southern California. I have demonstrated a reliable ability to perform at a high level and have been rewarded the past two seasons with a San Diego Section Division 1 CIF Final (2019), and a bowl game and the CCCAA Football State Championship (2021). I am seeking to continue to be challenged and to continue to grow and improve as an official.

My strengths as an official come from my passion for preparation and self-assessment. I pride myself on thoroughly preparing myself in the rules, mechanics and officiating philosophies in order to give myself the best chance to make correct judgements. Following each game I complete a thorough self-assessment of my performance, which I compare to a review of the film of my performance. I consult my mentors in reviewing and discussing challenging judgements and I seek to grow as an official from every experience I have.

I am confident that I have the abilities necessary to officiate football at the highest levels, however, I enjoy the opportunities I get to work this game at every level.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I am finishing my 7th overall season as an official, my 6th at the junior college level.

This season, I was awarded my first CIF (high school) State Championship game and my second junior college post season bowl game, both as an Umpire.

By position, I am an Umpire. However, I was moved to the offensive backfield this season and found a new home there. My career as I progress will be as either a Center Judge or as an Umpire in the offensive backfield. I am very much at home in the offensive backfield and love to run and move. It is quite a fitting position for me and I can't wait to get back on the field again next season.

My philosophy is pretty simple, be the best I can be at being a balanced official. My philosophy is to be a lifetime learner of the rules and mechanics, of communicating with my colleagues, of helping others on all levels, and of the game of football. By keeping positive energy and being passionate about officiating, I will always be learning on and off the field.

I am the Director of Officials for TX Gridiron where some of my responsibilities are to coordinate athletic sporting events/activities with flag football for adults and youth.

Lastly, I have been a Social Studies middle school teacher for 15 years, and I coached sports in my first 7 years until I fell in love with officiating.

After 15 seasons of officiating high school and college football, I made the decision to step away from the vocation that I am so passionate about to address some life goals and evaluate my goals in football officiating. The 2021 season was my first year back and I am focused on the goals I have set for myself and attending this camp is a step in achieving those goals. I have achieved many of my goals at the high school level and am now focused on my college career and giving back at the high school level.

He completed his first year of college officiating in the SCCFOA working on Mike Davis’s crew as a field judge. The experience working with the same crew was invaluable. The mistakes that were made in the beginning of the season and the help from veteran officials on the Davis crew allowed Telvin to go from a rookie college official to looking like a veteran by the end of the season. With three years of D-1 college football experience playing receiver for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, Telvin is excited to be back around the sport he loves and inspire more young former athletes that it’s not so bad making the transition to being an official.
